The Jeep Liberty is a compact SUV that first debuted in 2002. The Liberty attempts to blend Jeep’s 4X4 image and expertise with a small SUV. The liberty does not come standard with four-wheel drive, but there are two 4 wheel drive options available; the Command-Trac® and the Selec-Trac® I. So this model still has the go anywhere capability that Jeep’s are known for.
The most recent model (2008 which is now available) has a redesigned look with boxy features replacing some of the rounded lines on the previous model. The most significant difference are apparent on the front section and front grill. If these features look familiar it is because the new Liberty has similar design features to Commander (another Jeep SUV in their current line-up).
Since its inception the Jeep Liberty has seen strong success, perhaps partially drive by the broader success in the smaller SUV category and Jeep’s leadership in the space. It was named the North American Truck of the Year in 2002 and then backed that up as the best-selling SUV in the United States in 2005.
